So now you’re happy. You’re confident about birth. Confident in your birthing body. Confident in your partner. And confident in your new hypnobirthing skills.
Then a pandemic hits. Hello Coronavirus. Hello Lockdown.
Then your home birth team closes down
Hi Steph,
Hope all is well. Such a bizarre time isn’t it?!
I thought I would let you know that I had my baby on the 1st May (42 weeks exactly)! Wilbur weighed in at 8lbs 1oz!
He was born at home very quickly, into Mikes arms.
We had no time to get to hospital
I didn’t realise I was in established labour. It was all super manageable. I just breathed my way through it and used the Freya app!
The whole labour was uninterrupted and purely led by instinct. It’s the calmest I’ve ever felt and can’t quite believe he is here, safe and well.
We were hoping for a home birth
But plans changed when the lockdown began. The home birth team could no longer support it due to the pressures on the labour ward.
I was absolutely devastated when my midwife broke the news to me. But realised it was out of everyone’s control.
However, I think Wilbur knew exactly what he was doing and gave me an amazing experience at home with just Mike and I!
I think the elation of going into labour naturally carried me through too.
I’d been sent to see a consultant as I was ‘overdue’ and conversations around induction and stretch & sweeps were starting to be mentioned! I am just so pleased that I stuck to my guns and trusted myself.
I don’t think Mike believed me when I said…
You’ve got to catch the baby!
I was just breathing my way through it and he thought no way.
He was on the phone to the midwife at the time and she said you need to phone 999 if she is saying that.
Next thing we knew Wilbur was in his arms, and then placed onto Alberts dog rug! We didn’t have any towels downstairs as neither of us realised how fast it was going to be. Gets the immunity up straight away.
He does play rugby after all.
I just wanted to share with you as your Hypnobirthing course really did put me on the right track to have a super positive birth and it’s really transformed my mindset.
Hope all is well.
Polly xx
